Meet the Pastor
When Pastor Jim and Audrey Miller bought a house at 204 Wilson Downing Rd. in Lexington, they were being strategic. They wanted a central location that made their home accessible to the people of their congregation and anyone else who might want to stop by—including the friends of their five children. This open door policy has helped to create community in a time when individualism and fragmentation have left many people feeling as if they were a community of one. The apostle Paul wrote, “We love you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our very lives as well” (I Thessalonians 2:8).
As pastor, Jim’s primary goal is not to be “the minister,” but to empower each person to minister effectively in the ways God has gifted them. Most of the ministry at Oasis is through volunteers. Overall leadership is provided by an elected board of elders, along with the pastor.
Jim considers it a great privilege to be present in crucial moments of life--whether it be birth or death, marriage or divorce, victory or defeat, faith or doubt, health or sickness, joy or sorrow, triumph or tragedy.
Jim received an M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he sat under professors with many different denominational affiliations. This rich diversity has proven to be helpful to Jim in relating to people from many different backgrounds.
